 Friendship Club

The Friendship Club gets together on Wednesdays in the Village Hall at 10 am. We are taking this opportunity to invite you to come along and to bring a friend. You don’t have to become a member and you can drop in at any time. There is no charge and not everyone stays for lunch. Transport can be arranged.

We start with coffee and a chat, followed by a quiz, some gentle exercises and games such as whist, scrabble and dominoes; or you can just sit and chat.

Lunch is about 12 noon and costs £2.80; if you want to have lunch you must let us know before 10.30 am so that we can inform the kitchen.

Please enter by the side door at all times.

For more information phone you can phone John Sparrow.

Every year we have a Gala afternoon in the village from noon till 4pm.

We host an open competition in October for singles and an open pairs competition in March.

Our sessions are sociable and we alter them to suit everyone so that we all get the most from each run.

At present we have a variety of members, from plodders to marathon runners so all are welcome - whether you're a beginner or an experienced runner, we would be delighted to have you along.

We have a "column" in the St Cyrus Village newsletter that is worth a read - the latest edition can be found on the 'Archive' page.

Scottish Country Dancing

This is an experienced Scottish Dance group which has been in existence for more than 20 years. All kinds of Scottish Dances are taught and we guarantee good music.

There is an Annual Dance and people come from “a’ the airts” to enjoy the dancing and supper. We also hold various social events for the members. We don’t need to find much of an excuse for a party!

New members are welcome, but some experience of Country Dancing is necessary. The season is from the beginning of September to the end of May and we get together in the Public Hall on Monday evenings from 7.30 to 9pm.

The fee for members is £15 for the period September to December and another £15 January to May. Casual visitors are welcome and are asked to pay £1.00 per session. for

We hold four coffee mornings during July and August to fund the Christmas Party and pay for the coach trips.

Our meetings are held in the Village Hall every first Monday of the month at 7:30pm and are open to everyone.

We would like to extend a very warm welcome to anyone who would like to join us, either as a member or guest.

Tea Dance

This group meets every Friday throughout the year from 2 – 4 pm in the Public Hall.

The name ‘Tea Dancing’ conjures up a picture of a lot of “auld wifies” sedately waltzing round the hall. Nothing could be further from the truth. It is moderately active and great fun.  Even teenagers like it!

We do a mixture of old time, ceilidh, sequence, country and a little line dancing.  There are over a hundred dances in our repertoire and we add in new ones when they appear.

The group is friendly and you don’t need a partner.  Fridays are social, happy occasions with good music, good company and a break for a cup of tea and biscuits halfway through.

We have several party days throughout the year and these are well attended.

This type of dancing is suitable for all ages and new members are welcome. You don’t need to be an experienced dancer! Our experienced dancers are very good at helping new members.

Our members come from St Cyrus and Laurencekirk, Inverbervie, Gourdon, Montrose and Johnshaven. The emphasis is on enjoyment and exercise.

There is no annual fee – just pay when you attend, £1 per session.

Contact Mrs Joan Davidson in the village.

Whist Club

We meet every Wednesday at 7 pm in the Public Hall from the end of September to around Easter.

There is no annual membership fee but members pay £1 per week when they attend.

We normally have 6 to 9 tables and there is a first, second and booby prize each week.

We also keep an annual record of results towards an end-of-season prize.
