Gala Day 2012
This year’s Gala is certainly one I will not forget in a hurry! The usual venue was sodden and we moved to our ever-accommodating Village Hall. Thanks to the committee for their help and flexibility. We managed to contact all concerned and everybody was happy to adapt to the circumstances.
Outside entertainment was curtailed due to the limited space; all but one of our on-stage entertainers appeared; our usual tea tent was in the small hall and the burger tent to the rear of the hall. Our stall holders were split between the main hall and outside tents, where the heavens opened and then retired and so on and so forth for the whole the day. Amazingly no one packed up early, and even more impressively, the villagers braved the elements, often with buggy in tow. We are truly grateful to all who supported the Gala.
Due to the changed circumstances we did not meet our financial target, however, I’m delighted to report that we made a slight profit. This would not have been the case without some larger than usual donations from the groups and the proceeds from the Teas and Cakes (many thanks Ina & Ryan Adam) as well as the Burger Stall (many thanks Doug Hamilton, Bill Weir and Helen McPherson) who gave 100% of their takings to the Gala Day Fund. You were all absolute stars on the day. It means that next year’s Gala Day is assured.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank Martin Ross of Ross Agri for always helping with bunting and parking. Also John Harrison (Morphie Farms) for work done prior to the Gala. This year it was not required but it was made available none the less and for this we are grateful. Thank you Gavin Farquhar (Farquhar Leisure) for supplying us with bouncy castles and many thanks, Beryl from Esk Academy of Dance.
In previous years MacPhie from Glenbervie ( www.macphie.com ) supplied the burgers but this line was discontinued. Instead they sent us a big cheque! Thank you!
A special thanks to our committee members who mucked in to pull it off, well done. If anyone is interested in joining our committee, feel free to come along to one of our meetings.
